Picture of the Day

What a grand Presidential baseball first pitch photograph. In the picture JFK, Everette Dirkson, Mike Mansfield, Larry O'Brien, Abraham Ribicoff, C. Douglas Dillion, Arthur Goldberg, and JFK Navy pal Paul B. Fay to his right in raincoat and hat (he was also Navy Secretary for brief time).

  1. Ran across your pic of JFK throwing out the 1st pitch. Great photo. Have not seen this particular one before. I do a blog on JFK, www.jfk50.blogspot.com & would welcome you & your readers to check it out. Hope you won't mind my correcting the caption. The man in the raincoat & hat is not Paul Fay but David (Dave) Powers, JFK's Presidential assistant & close friend since 1946 who just happened to be an avid baseball fan. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Powers at the JFK Library in 1986 & it was easy to see why JFK liked him so much. He was a great guy! Thanks, John.

  2. Thanks for the comment and the correction. I did not know who that individual was and I had a friend chime in, who had worked as a staffer for Sam Ervin in the early '60s, who thought it was Fay. I will look forward to checking out your blog.

  3. I stand corrected. I'm the friend who identified Dave Powers as Faye, they do look similar, but I agree it is Powers...I double checked, too...sorry.
