A Few of My Observations from Night One at the DNC

"What a night at the DNC. The orchestration, the content, the intelligence, the quality, the enthusiasm and energy is amazing. And to see the 'mosaic' which is America across the audience is right and good. If it is possible to get a "bounce" from one night of a convention, they get one, big time. Michele so personalized it, so humanized it."

"David Gergen says two more nights like this and Obama could break the race wide open. Unbelievable night at DNC."

"Michelle Obama’s Tuesday night speech about her husband and the Obama family at the Democratic National Convention drove 28,003 tweets-per-minute at its peak, nearly double the 14,289 mark reached by Mitt Romney‘s acceptance speech at the Republican convention last week."

"Mayor Castro was just as good as it gets. The future of America is in very good hands."

  1. I think her speech was nice, but the speech I think that best explains this election was the speech delivered by Lincoln Chafee.

  2. President Bill Clinton’s Speech at the DNC 2012 was historic and twenty years from now, students majoring in Political Science, will study and review this speech. In forty eight minutes he almost covered the entire Democratic Policy Platform. The only thing he did not get into was Foreign Affairs. He took a difficult situation, the $716 Billion savings from Medicare programs that resulted in essentially, rebates to the Medicare Program from hospitals, health care providers and health insurance consortiums as a result of some Medicare reforms, and moved the money into the Medicare general fund thereby making that program solvent until 2024. A news analyst on MSNBC, Ezra Klein, tried to explain this situation last week after fact-checking the Paul Ryan speech, on this very same subject. He admitted that it would be a difficult topic for the Democrats to explain but Bill Clinton pulled it off in a way ordinary people could understand. He finished that topic by saying “…after listening to Paul Ryan’s speech [on Medicare] I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry…! ” That was a brilliant rhetorical “smack-down”.

His speech was NOT divisive, nor sarcastic, nor hateful. It was uplifting, optimistic, and specific when it came to addressing the Party’s major points. He methodically enumerated the Democratic Party’s platform on at least a dozen specific issues. It was a Home Run for the DNC and when you compare to two conventions, the RNC was left way behind.

Marco Rupio, RNC, spoke about himself, his family and his modest beginnings and then spent two sentences at the end of his speech endorsing Mitt Romney. They were looking out for themselves in 2016 to be sure.

Gov. Suzanne Fernadez, New Mexico Republican, spoke all about herself and her family and how she guarded the church parking lot at night while her mother played bingo at church and how she carried a .357 Magnum hand gun and that brought the crowd to their feet. Would she use the gun on a kid stealing a car battery in the parking lot? I wonder, ummm.

Gov. Cris (El Gordo) Christie, NJ Republican could only talk about himself and his mom but left his dad completely out of the picture despite the fact that his dad was in attendance and the only living parent he had. He’s unfit health-wise, and he’s unfit politically for America, plain and simple.

High marks have to go to Anne Romney and her speech for her husband was a really good one. The DNC was honored by a genuine war heroine, Tammy Duckworth, a double amputee from the Iraq War. Her Blackhawk helicopter
was shot down by an RPG during combat ops in Iraq.

All in all, I think it was a “Home Run” of a convention and they easily out-classed the RNC, Hands down. How about another Dem heroine, Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords?

The Republicans claimed that the DNC speakers never mentioned God. Well, they said the Pledge of Allegiance every day and God was mentioned before anything else and Gabrielle Giffords came to recite the Pledge and took the entire arena down. What a moment In American Politics.

The RNC on the other hand, while the speakers talked all about their humble beginnings, they talked mostly about themselves and they almost forgot to mention the Candidate. Let’s hope it translates into votes for the Dems.
